In the event of a fire, textile products cause the fire to grow further. Therefore, in the textile sector, more emphasis is placed on the production of flammable or fireproof fabrics in order to reduce the risk of fire.

The main cause of combustion is the presence of oxygen, heat and flammable substances. During the combustion event, the structure of the fibers in textile products deteriorates and a number of combustible gases are released. As long as oxygen and flammable gases are present, combustion continues. The result is a series of reactions that trigger each other. The flammability of the fabrics is related to the type of fiber used in the weaving rope, the density of the fabric texture and the finishing processes applied during the finishing process. This is why fireproof fabric and fireproof fabric are not the same thing. Flame retardant fabrics have the ability to delay combustion as much as possible. During the finishing operations, some processes which delay the combustion are applied and the fabric is prevented from releasing flammable gases. Therefore, the fabric does not burn, but it is charred. A number of additives or aramid fibers are used which delay the combustion.

As a result, in the textile industry, used for fire purposes, fireproof fabrics or flame retardant fabrics are collected in two separate groups. Both types of fabric are heat resistant fabrics.
