Toy Safety - Part 1
Toy Safety - Part 1

In October of the year 2016, the Ministry of Customs and Trade issued the Toy Safety Regulation in order to ensure the safety of the toys and to determine the procedures and principles regarding the free movement of toys.

This regulation covers all kinds of products used in games by all children under the age of 14, whether or not intended to be used specifically for gaming or whether they are intended for gaming. Products that the regulation does not accept as toys are counted in the annex of the regulation (Annex 1). In addition, special safety requirements for toys (physical and mechanical properties, flammability, chemical properties, electrical properties, hygiene conditions and rayoactivity properties) are explained in detail in the annex to the regulation (Annex 2).

The annexes to the Regulation also contain the Declaration of Conformity to the European Union (Annex 3) and the general warnings and signs (Annex 5) required in toys.

It is of course not in vain that the matter is kept so important and moved to legal regulations. The only concern is not to jeopardize the health of children and to keep them away from dangerous toys.

Physical testing of textile products and materials used in production is therefore very important. These physical tests include toy safety (part 1) tests. These tests are carried out in accordance with the BS EN71-1 Toys safety - Mechanical and physical properties standard.

The laboratories that will perform toy safety tests must be accredited from national or international foreign organizations in accordance with the standards of TS EN ISO / IEC 17025 General Conditions for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories. As these laboratories have a strong infrastructure and an experienced and trained staff, the results are high quality and reliable.

The issue of toy safety is also covered by the European Union Directive 2009 / 48 / EC, known as the toy standard.
