According to the results of World Health Organization studies, 80 percent of infectious diseases in developing countries are caused by insufficiencies in sanitation and hygiene. Preventing such risky behaviors in working environments is also very important.

Occupational hygiene refers to all practices and cleaning measures taken to protect employees from environments that may harm their health. A number of standards have been developed by the International Organization for Standards (ISO) to meet the needs of businesses in the fields of environment, health, safety and hygiene.

At the same time, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standard in the 1990 years and set the rules to be followed in the process from the production stage to the delivery of products and services to consumers.

Occupational hygiene studies are the studies that determine, evaluate and control the environmental factors that are seen in working environments and cause health deterioration and various health problems.

The purpose of occupational hygiene studies is as follows:

  • Ensuring that employees are physically, mentally and socially healthy and maintaining this level
  • To determine the health risks caused by the working environment or working conditions and to protect the employees against the factors that harm the health of the employees
  • General protection measures in the workplace, to take personal protection measures

Today, occupational hygiene covers many issues. For example, indoor air quality, airborne diseases, noise, radiation, thermal stress, biological factors, chemical factors, lighting, personal protective equipment, ventilation, vibration and the like.

Accredited laboratories are needed for many tests, measurements, analyzes and evaluations. These laboratories also carry out occupational hygiene measurements within the framework of personal exposure measurements. In these studies, laboratories are based on both current regulations and standards published by local and foreign organizations.
