The leather sector in our country has a strong processing tradition from the past. In this way, our country is one of the most ambitious countries in the world in quality leather production today. 5 percent of sheep and lamb 12 are processed in our country. Again, 4 of the leather and fur clothing production is realized in our country. In short, the leather industry today exports 2 billion dollars, which makes a significant contribution to total exports.

The development of the leather sector in terms of the country's economy will of course give positive results, but quality and reliable products must be produced for this development. The quality of the skin depends on the cleanliness of the skin. However, faults on the skin are due to the effects of the most commonly used chemicals, improper treatment during processing, or scars from the environment in which the skin is removed. In addition, the lack of airy areas in which the leathers are stocked, and the storage of leathers in cool and sun-free warehouses are among the critical factors that adversely affect the quality of the leather.

In the processing of the skin, firstly, processes are made to protect the raw skin from bacteria and ensure that it is used intact. Mineral and synthetic chemicals are used to make the leather flexible and durable. The tanning of the skin is the process applied to make the skin resistant to moisture, heat and bacteria.

Another characteristic that determines the quality of the skin is various fastness properties. In this context, the determination of tear strength in the skin by the authorized laboratories, determination of tensile strength, determination of elongation strength, thickness determination, washing fastness, sweat fastness, water fastness, rubbing fastness, light fastness, dry cleaning solution fastness, pH value determination, chromium (VI) determination , formaldehyde determination, banned azo dyes determination, determination of extractable heavy metals, determination of the amount of soluble substances with dichloromethane, chlorophenols determination, o-phenylphenol determination and determination of adhesion tests are carried out.
