The abbreviation ErP is derived from the English term energy related products, which means energy-related products. ErP stands for ecological requirements for all energy-using products. In other words, energy-related products (ErP) include energy-consuming or non-energy-consuming appliances, windows and building insulation products that have a direct impact on energy consumption, such as water.

A directive 2009 / 2009 / EC has been published in the European Union countries in 125. This directive describes the eco-design requirements for energy-related products. With this directive, it is aimed to increase energy efficiency and protection level of the environment, at the same time to ensure energy supply security and to contribute to sustainable development in this way.

The European Union's energy strategy is to reduce energy consumption by around 2020 by 20. If this happens, European Union countries will not only save money in monetary terms, but will also support the protection of the environment by reducing carbon emissions. The 2009 / 125 / EC directive, known as the EcoDesign directive, was put into practice for this purpose. This directive is intended to enable enterprises to design, produce, pack, transport, distribute and generate waste as efficiently and environmentally safe as possible. At the same time, consumers are informed about the energy needs of the products they buy and use.

In fact, work in this direction was initiated in 2005. In order to see the pros and cons of energy use and increase their efficiency, a group of products has been launched. By the year 2008, the draft directive emerged and standards were set for the products under study. In 2009 the product scope was further expanded. In the year 2012, a brand new work plan was put into effect in order to direct the manufacturers. The process of product reviews and standards is very detailed. The products have been examined in every aspect from design to use.

In general, the products covered by the EcoDesign directive fall into two categories:

  • Energy-using products: These are products that use, transfer, or produce energy in some way. Many products that are used daily, including televisions, computers, washing machines and lighting devices, fall into this group.
  • Energy-related products (ErPs): These products do not directly use energy, but are indirectly related to energy. Equipment such as insulation materials, windows and taps fall into this group.

In the study carried out in 2012, special attention was paid to the implementation and implementation of the necessary measures, including electrical cables, steam boilers, window products, computer servers and data storage devices, wine storage devices, heat insulation and heating controls. In short, the EcoDesign directive covers a wide range of products that can be turned into energy.

The issue of energy efficiency is one of the main issues of the European Union climate change initiative. EcoDesign guidelines play a key role in improving energy efficiency and environmental performance of energy-related products throughout their lifecycle.

Today, products that do not meet EcoDesing standards are no longer allowed to enter the European Union markets. Therefore, energy related products (ErP) tests performed in advanced laboratories are important. In these tests, products that do not comply with the standards and which will harm consumers are determined.
