Total Acidity Analysis

The acidity level is a measure of the water's ability to neutralize bases. There are largely weak acids in natural waters. Carbonic acids are the leading ones. In the analyzes performed to determine the acidity level, the titration curve of the carbonic acid is extracted and the pH value is examined. Accordingly, waters with a pH lower than 8.2 or 8.3 are considered acidic. The acidity of water with a pH between 4.5 and 8.3 is called phenol phthalein acidity and the acidity of water with a pH lower than 4.5 is called methyl orange acidity. Methyl orange acidity is due to mineral acids. The acidity parameter is mainly used to determine the corrosive and destructive effects of natural water and wastewater.

The total acidity level includes all acid molecules that have been separated or ionized, regardless of the activity of the acidity, i.e., whether the acid is strong or not. Naturally there are many organic acids in water.

There are some properties that should be all kinds of disinfectants, whether acidic or not. For example, disinfectants should have a wide antimicrobial domain. It should not be affected by organic substances and other chemicals. It should not harm human health. Compliance with hygiene rules is a necessity for human health. Hygiene prevents the growth of microorganisms and transmission to humans. Furthermore, it should not cause abrasion and deterioration on the applied surfaces and should have a permanent effect on the applied surface.

Total acidity analyzes are also performed in authorized laboratories within the scope of physical and chemical analyzes of disinfectants. These laboratories use world-accepted test methods and test criteria in testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies and are based on standards issued by local and foreign organizations.

In the analyzes carried out in the laboratories, the determination of the total acidity level is based on the proportion of sulfuric acid contained in the sample content.
