In the garment industry, processes begin by purchasing raw yarn and sometimes by purchasing woven or knitted fabrics according to the type and characteristics of the product to be produced. Therefore, fabric production and garment production are inseparable activities. In enterprises without a fabric production facility, the fabrics are in the form of direct purchase or subcontracting. But enterprises with fabric production facilities supply fabrics through internal production. This situation changes completely depending on the capacity, the type of product to be produced and the capacity of the machines.

However, the quality of apparel or garment fabrics is very important, no matter what way they are supplied. One of the most important factors determining the quality of fabrics is the non-flammability of the fabrics.

Fire resistance refers to the ability of fibers, yarns or fabrics to ignite, burn or extinguish even after exposure to a fire and away from that fire source. Such fabrics are resistant to high temperatures and flames. Textile companies that produce ready-to-wear garments for workers in high temperature and flammable areas have to determine the combustion properties of fabrics.

This standard covers the tests for the determination of the combustion property of ready-made garment fabrics subjected to surface ignition tests according to EN ISO 6941 standard. The TS EN ISO 6941 standard is related to the measurement of the combustion and flame spread properties of vertical textile fabrics.
