Furniture - Flammability of Upholstered Furniture - Part 2 (Match Fire Equivalent)

For textile materials, flame retardancy means flame retardancy. Flame retardant textiles are non-flammable textiles, even at flame or high temperatures, or self-extinguishable in a short period of time. Fabrics of this nature are particularly preferred in the production of upholstered furniture. Different methods are applied to give flammable properties to fabrics. These methods are briefly:

The use of yarns made of flammable fibers when weaving fabrics

Changing the chemical structure of the yarn fibers

The use of chemicals in the finishing process to ensure the ignition of the fabric power

Authorized laboratories are accredited from national or international accreditation bodies in accordance with TS EN ISO / IEC 17025 General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories. Therefore, all tests and reports are quality, reliable and fast.

In addition, laboratories comply with the standards published by national or international organizations in the test studies. In the 2 (Match equivalent) tests, laboratories are based on the following standards:

  • TS EN 1021-2 Furniture - Evaluation of the flammability of upholstered furniture - Part 2: Equivalent to the flame match of the combustion source
  • ISO 8191-2 Furniture - Evaluation of flammability properties of upholstered furniture - Part 2: Ignition source: Match flame equivalent

These standards include test methods for determining the flammability (or flammability) of textile products such as floor coverings and fillers used for laying seating elements when exposed to a small flame. These test methods are only suitable for assessing the flammability of textile products used in upholstery of seating elements. Otherwise, it is not suitable to determine the flammability of the complete furniture.
