Garment Fabrics Combustion Test
Garment Fabrics Combustion Test

Combustion tests of garment fabrics are applied to all garment fabrics for adults or children. The truth is that the fabric can not burn. However, some fabrics are made more resistant to flame and ignition by both the properties of the fibers in the texture and the non-flammable finishing processes applied in the finishing processes. It is more accurate to define such fabrics as flammable fabrics or late flammable fabrics.

These fabrics, which are also called as non-flammable fabrics, are more resistant to fire, ignition or flame in their structure. The most basic feature of these fabrics is that it delays the spread of fire.

In the developed and developing countries, with the strengthening of the industrial sector, the protection needs of people and the demands for the protective properties of textile products increase. One of these features is the high temperature and fire protection of the fabrics. Our country is an important textile products country and it is not possible to remain outside these demands. While the textile products are offered to the markets, their aesthetics, comfort, durations and prices as well as their protective properties are questioned.

Authorized laboratories, The following standard is applied for the combustion tests of garment fabrics:

  • US CPSC 16 CFR Part 1610 Standard for flammability of clothing fabrics (US Consumer Product Safety Commission)

This standard describes standard methods for testing and grading the flammability of textiles and textile products for use as garments. This standard aims to reduce the risk of injury and loss of life and to prevent dangerous combustion of textile products.

The standard provides methods for testing the flammability of fabrics intended for garment making, determining the combustion class and classifying textile products. This standard does not apply to flats, gloves and lining fabrics.
