O-phenylphenol determination

Determination of O-Phenylphenol
Determination of O-Phenylphenol

In the textile industry, one of the dyeing methods of the fabrics produced from artificial fibers is the dyeing technique with carrier. The dyeing process according to Carrier technique is carried out by puller method. Carrier is an auxiliary material used in the dyeing process of polyester. Using polyester fiber, disperse dyes, dyeing according to carrier dyeing method is carried out at normal atmospheric pressure and temperature below 100. Dyeing with Carrier dyeing method gives a good result even at 85 degree and this method is preferred for dyeing textile products which do not want to be boiled for a long time.

Carrier method to dye polyester at low temperatures is a good aspect of this method, but the cost of dyeing is high and it is difficult to remove residues on the product after painting. In addition, this method has negative aspects such as creating environmental pollution, affecting light fastness and not having the desired effect on dark dyeing.

Some carrier types used in the dyeing process by the Carrier method include o-phenylphenol, a high-molecular phenol. However, this chemical substance is harmful to human health and it is important to determine the amount used in a textile product.

Among the chemical and ecological tests carried out in the laboratories accredited within the scope of TS EN ISO / IEC 17025 standard from domestic or foreign accreditation organizations, tests are performed to determine the amount of o-phenylphenol in textile products. These studies are based on the following standards:

  • ISO 17070 (IULTCS / IUC 25) Skin - Chemical tests - Determination of tetrachlorophenol-, trichlorophenol-, dichlorophenol-, monochlorophenol- isomers and pentachlorophenol content
  • 64 LFGB B 82.02-8 Leather and textile - Chemical experiments - Determination of pentachlorophenol content
  • DIN 53313 Skin test - Determination of pentachlorphenol content

Laboratories have to have a state-of-the-art infrastructure and a trained and experienced staff in order to get high quality, fast and reliable results.
