Lead Determination - Non-Metal Children's Accessories

Non-metal children's accessories mean all textile products, especially clothing and non-metal toys. In this respect, textile products are exposed to many chemicals both during production and finishing processes. These chemicals are applied during dyeing processes or in various finishing processes. One of the most dangerous chemicals is lead, a type of heavy metal. In the textile industry, the lead acetate component is generally used for color stabilization. Within the framework of the legal regulations, the use of lead compounds in our country and in the world is prohibited due to its harm to health.

The Communiqué on Market Surveillance and Inspection of Hazardous Chemical Substances of Some Consumer Products issued by the Ministry of Customs and Trade in 2015 restricts the use of hazardous chemicals contained in the consumer products introduced on the market.

Lead components, especially in children's clothing, toys or articles, are extremely dangerous. The laboratories, which are authorized by local or foreign accreditation organizations, carry out the measurement and tests of lead determination in non-metal accessories such as children's toys and articles among the chemical and ecological test studies. In these studies, the following standard principles are taken into consideration:

  • 16 CFR Part 1303 Prohibition of paints containing lead and certain consumer products containing lead

This standard prohibits toys containing lead in chemical structure or other materials intended for children to play as dangerous goods. Toys and other items designed for children to use and use are toys that are given to children and used by children. Otherwise, this standard does not cover other household items that may be in the hands of children.

The laboratories that will carry out these studies must be accredited from national or international accreditation organizations in accordance with the standards of TS EN ISO / IEC 17025 General Conditions for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories.
