As the frequency of wefts and warps increases, the fabric structure becomes more tight and this limits the movement of the fibers. As such, the tendency to pilling decreases. According to the results of the research, in a 80 / 20 ratio, the density of wool and nylon blended fabric increases as much as 30 and pilling decreases. Another feature affecting the tendency of pilling in fabrics is knitting type and weight. The higher the fabric weight, the lower the pilling tendency. This is particularly evident in knitted fabrics. During the use of garments, frequent use and washing are also factors that increase pilling.

There are many devices and methods developed to test the pilling tendency of fabrics. Among these, the most used today are:

  • ICI Pilling Box (BS 5811 and TS EN ISO 12945-1 / T1)
  • Random Tumble Pilling Tester (ASTM D3512 and TS EN ISO 12945-3)
  • Martindale Abrasion and Pilling Tester (ASTM D4970 and TS EN ISO 12945-2)

The laboratories that will perform these tests must be accredited in accordance with the standards of TS EN ISO / IEC 17025 General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories from national and international accreditation organizations.

Fleece fabrics are durable and lightweight knitted fabrics that are full, soft and warm. It is a very common and preferred type of fabric with its soft texture and antibacterial (anti-bacteria) and antipilling (non-fuzzing and lint-free) structure.

Fabrics must be washed. They must be resistant to washing process in order to be long lasting. Washing frequency, properties of water used, washing temperature and duration, quantity and quality of cleaning agents used, drying temperature and shape, are factors that affect the quality of the fabric in the washing process.

Garments are beaded and lost value due to improper handling and incorrect washing.

In order to provide quality and reliable results, laboratories must work with state-of-the-art equipment and have an experienced and trained staff.
