In the textile industry, twisting is the process of twisting the fibers around one another in order to provide the yarn withstand tensile forces during fabric weaving.

The amount of twist determined in one unit size according to the yarn numbering system used is a very important factor that affects all the properties of the fabric, in particular the durability, appearance and economy of the yarn and therefore the fabric.

Some twist is applied to make the yarns made from staple fibers to be durable. According to the direction of twist applied, these are called “S” or “Z üküm. In general, the yarns are “Z” twisted.

If the rotations occurring in the vertically held single ply yarn are corrected in the middle of the letter Z, ie right down, or rotated clockwise by the right hand by the right hand, this yarn is “Z üküm twisted. However, özel S ”twisted yarns are also produced for special purposes.

When the yarn is produced, the amount and direction of twist to be given to the yarn is determined by the yarn count, the length of the fiber, the fineness and the place of use. It is very important to know the twist number and direction of the yarns.

For physical tests performed in accredited laboratories, standards issued by local and foreign organizations are complied with. In this context, the following standards are used in twisting (fabric) works:

  • TS 256 Woven fabrics - Production style - Analysis methods - Determination of the yarn twist from the fabric
  • BS 2085 Test method for the determination of twist in yarns, direct count method
  • BS 2864 Method of determination of twist of yarn extracted from fabric
  • ISO 7211-4 Textile - Woven fabrics - Production - Analysis methods - Part 4: Determination of the twist of yarn extracted from fabric
  • ASTM D1422 Standard test method for twist in single twisted yarns by twisted-untwisted method
  • ASTM D1423 Standard test method for twisting yarns with direct counting
