Campylobacter bacteria have been causing food poisoning in humans over the last two decades. In the researches, it was found that more than 10 percent of the gastrointestinal diseases caused by bacterial infections were caused by campylobacter type bacteria and 5 percent by salmonella type bacteria.

Campylobacter bacteria are the cause of diseases in the stomach and intestine systems of many animals in the world, especially in poultry, including domestic animals such as cats and dogs. The thermophilic species of Campylobacter bacteria (termotolerant campylobacter) find a suitable breeding environment for themselves at the 42 level in the poultry intestinal tract. Therefore, these bacteria cause great problems especially in poultry farms.

Thermotolerant Campylobacter bacteria produce an infection that can be transmitted to humans by consuming food products from these animals. In particular, 8 occurs more frequently in children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. In recent years, important researches have been carried out to determine the species of campylobacter bacteria that cause health problems in humans and it has been found that thermophilic species that can reproduce at 42 level cause infection. Therefore, campylobacter species, which are accepted as pathogens in humans, are termed thermotolerant (thermophilic) species. It is a fact that these species have gained great resistance to antibiotics in recent years.

In the studies for searching for thermotolerant campylobacter, advanced test methods and rapid test methods are applied. In the laboratories, thermotolerant campylobacter searches are carried out by rapid test methods within the framework of microbiological analyzes. These studies are based on standards published by national and international organizations. One of the standards applied is:

·         TS EN ISO 10272-1 Microbiology of food and animal nutrition - Campylobacter spp. method for the counting and determination of DNA - Part 1: Determination method
