Calling Listeria Monocytogenes (Rapid Test)

Bacteria called Listeria monocytogenes cause listerial disease in humans. This disease is a rare disease caused by eating foodstuffs transmitted by said bacteria. Listeria bacteria are common in the soil and in some raw foods. Although it does not always cause disease, the mortality rate is quite high. In 2009, six people lost their lives in Austria and Germany, eating a type of cheese infected with listeria monocytogenes. The cheeses were picked and the company stopped production.

Bacteria of the Listeria monocytogenes species are quite common in nature and are generally carried by domestic and wild animals. It is found in non-pasteurized milk, raw meat and raw fruits and vegetables. It is also found in soft cheeses, ready-made salads, ready-made meats, and raw unwashed vegetables. If pregnant women have eaten food contaminated by these bacteria, babies can be born with listerias. The risk of disease is high in the elderly and people with weak immune systems.

Occasionally, bacteria of listeria monocytogenes are dangerous to human health in various countries of the world. In a study conducted in the USA, hot dog, salami and similar processed meat products were held responsible for the epidemic that caused deaths. In 2005, the disease caused by bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, which is close to total 1500, was detected in all European Union countries. In our country, listeriasis was first identified in 1945. In studies, listeria monocytogenes bacteria were detected in cheese, some dairy products and meat meat products (listeria around 70 percent, listeria monocytogenes around 20 percent).

In the detection of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, rapid test methods are used as well as advanced test methods. In the advanced laboratories, studies are carried out to determine the listeria monocytogenes bacteria by rapid test method within the scope of microbiological analyzes.
