Urea Analysis

Animal production is an indispensable element of balanced nutrition which ensures the continuation of the human generation. Rational nutrition is of great importance in terms of economic production of basic animal nutrients such as meat, milk and eggs. Animal foods, proteins, vitamins and mineral substances, including the basic nutrients needed by people in appropriate proportions, they have unique flavor and aroma and are easy to digest products. The production and consumption of animal foods in sufficient quantities is the most important indicator of social development.

The food needs of animals and the feeding values of feeds are the essence of animal feeding. The fact that animal foods are positive and economical in terms of quantity and quality depends on the use of appropriate feed or feed mixes.

Urea is added to the feed as a source of protein. It was calculated that the maximum amount of 1 kg urea can be used for 15 ton compound feed. The addition of urea to feeds is done in order to reinforce the amount of urea contained in the saliva produced in the liver in the feeding of high yielding dairy cows. The current regulations on the inclusion of urea in animal feeds and the directives on feed additives issued in European Union countries are complied with.

The presence of urea in the feeds in laboratories can be determined quantitatively by means of non-existent tests and quantitatively as well as the amount of urea. In the quantitative determination of urea, the feed sample is rinsed with clarifying agents and water and filtered and suspended. Dimethylaminobenzaldehyde is then added to this filtrate and the absorbance value is measured on the spectrophotometer to determine the urea content.

The authorized laboratories carry out urea analyzes in feeds within the scope of chemical food analyzes. During these studies, the standards published by national and international organizations are complied with. A few standards are based on:

  • TS 10338 Animal feed - Determination of urea
  • TS 6319 Animal feed - Urea molasses
  • TS 8477 Animal feed - Feeding urea
