HCL insoluble Ash determination

Determination of Ash Insoluble in HCl
Determination of Ash Insoluble in HCl

Determination of insoluble ash in hydrochloric acid in animal feeds carried out by authorized laboratories is an important study. Raw ash analyzes determine the total amount of mineral substances in the feed. However, some mineral substances in raw ash are not evaluated by the organisms of animals. In particular, dicalcium phosphate, limestone and similar mineral feeds added to the compound feed from outside do not work in the animal organism. These parts of the mineral substances which are not digested by the animal organism are detected as ash insoluble in hydrochloric acid.

In addition, raw ash can contain fragments of soil, dust and sand that are mixed with the food. The presence of such substances in compound feeds usually results from the use of poor quality raw materials. The presence of particles such as dust, soil and sand in the feed is naturally undesirable.

The determination of ash and insoluble in hydrochloric acid is carried out with the aim of detecting the said particles with mineral substances which are not evaluated by the animal organism. It is determined whether the elements counted in this way are included in the compound feed and if so, how much they are placed. According to the standards, the amount of ash insoluble in hydrochloric acid, which may be present in the compound feed, must be at most 1 percent.

In animal production, quality feed should be used. In particular, compound feeds are feeds whose composition is guaranteed and must be produced in accordance with certain standards. Feed production and sales points must be continuously controlled, quality control of feeds and fraudulent feeds placed on the market.

In the laboratories, the determination of ash insoluble in hydrochloric acid is carried out within the scope of chemical tests. A few standards referenced in these studies are:

  • TS ISO 735 Oilseed meal - Determination of ash insoluble in hydrochloric acid
  • TS ISO 763 Fruit and vegetable products - Determination of insoluble ash in hydrochloric acid
  • TS ISO 5985 Animal feed - Determination of ash insoluble in hydrochloric acid
