Diet fiber determination
Carbohydrates are organic molecules commonly found in food products. Some of the carbonates are made up of dietary fiber or crude fibers.
It is an expression used to distinguish dietary fiber, cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin from other compounds that make up the plant cell wall. The softness or hardness of plant food products, their ease of digestion and their energy value depend on the amount of fiber.
There are no enzymes in the human body that break down the compounds that make up crude fiber. Therefore, they are not burned enzymatically in the digestive system and do not constitute an energy value for humans. However, they give a feeling of satiety. In addition, it has pulp-forming, water-retaining, regulating and increasing effects on bowel movements. It also has properties to prevent bowel cancer and constipation. In these respects, the value of raw fiber in healthy nutrition is very high.
In addition, crude fiber is a measure of nutritional value in animal feeds. Since crude fiber is not easily digested, the nutritional value of feeds rich in crude fiber is low.
In order to determine the nutritional value and quality of food and possible frauds and to determine the quality characteristics of foods, crude fiber determination is also made as a requirement of legal regulations.
While chemical analyzes are performed on plant foods, the sum of the remaining organic components after removing crude protein, crude oil and nitrogen-free extracts from organic materials gives the crude fiber value. Crude fiber is mainly composed of vegetable carbohydrates such as cellulose, hemicellulose and indigestible lignin.
Food fibers find use in products with low fat content, especially in meat products with heat treatment, with their properties such as increasing the water holding capacity, contributing to tissue development and reducing cooking losses.
Dietary fiber determination studies are also carried out in authorized laboratories within the scope of chemical tests. In these studies, the standards issued by domestic and foreign organizations are complied with.
