The basic raw material of chewing gum is gum base. However, during production, different elastomers, binders, resins and a number of softening agents are added to the gum to provide flexibility. In addition, while gum is produced, polyvinyl acetate is added to its content and balance is achieved. This material is a water-insoluble polymer and a polyvinyl alcohol water-loving polymer.

When it was first produced, gum was made using gum tree resin, but today rubber and plastic are used which are synthetic. These two substances are mixed at high temperature and liquid syrup and sweetener are added to soften the gum paste. Resin, talcum powder, polyvinyl alcohol and wax are also added to the gum base. Today, other chemicals are added to the gum content to produce gum which does not adhere to the tooth.

Chewing gum, first developed in the US in 1869, is now a confectionery product produced all over the world.

Gam arabic is a substance that increases the consistency of gum. It is naturally obtained from the trunks of certain trees by certain methods. It is known that gum arabic has been used for many years. Egyptians used it as a thickening agent in the cosmetic field and as an adhesive for embalming.

Chewing gum prepared in chewing gum production is called gum, and gum yeast (gum) analysis is also performed in authorized laboratories within the scope of physical analysis. During these analyzes, the standards published by local and foreign organizations are complied with. It also applies to generally accepted test methods and test criteria, and thus achieves reliable and unbiased results.

Some of the standards considered during these analyzes are:

  • TS 8000 Chewing Gum

This standard covers only the identified gums. It does not cover other than that.

  • TS 11057 Drip gum production rules
  • IS 6747 Gum and bubble gum
