Turkish Food Codex Contaminants Regulation was published by Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock in 2011. This regulation covers nitrates, mycotoxins, heavy metals, various chemical compounds and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) found in foods and describes the highest values ​​of such contaminants found in foodstuffs.

In the case of contaminants, all kinds of substances other than foreign matter such as animal hair or insect particles, which are not intentionally added to foodstuffs, but which are contaminated with foodstuffs by environmental contamination during production stages, such as production, processing, preparation and processing, or during packaging, packaging, transport or storage. substance.

In the annex of the said regulation, the highest limits of contaminants in foodstuffs are required. The eighth part of the crop added in 2012 is related to melamine and its structural analogues. The maximum melamine limits in mg / kg by food types are described as follows:

  • Food (except infant formulas and follow-on formulas): 2,5
  • Baby formulas and follow-on formulas in powder form: 1,0

The limit for infant formulas and follow-on formulas does not apply to foods whose melamine value exceeds 2,5 mg / kg and is permitted to use cyromazine. The melamine value in these foods should not exceed the allowable limit for cyromazine.

Within the scope of packaging analysis in advanced laboratories, determination of melamine and structural analogues in the contents of packaging materials is carried out by liquid chromatography - mass - mass spectrometry method called LC-MS / MS. This method breaks the ions and consequently uses the multiple reaction monitoring technique. Therefore, it gives reliable results even at very low concentrations. In addition, the LC-MS / MS method has high sensitivity and accuracy and is not costly. It also gives precise results in packaging analysis.
