Fracture Strength Tests
Fracture Strength Tests

Straight break or edge break tests of various materials are carried out to determine the durability of the products under which these materials are used under various conditions. For example, in the paper industry, cardboard materials are subjected to straight break and edge break tests.

In the case of straight fracture tests, the following standards are considered:

  • TS EN ISO 3035 Corrugated board - Standard for determination of surface crush strength
  • TAPPI T 825 Straight breaking test of corrugated board - Rigid support method

In the case of straight fracture tests performed in accordance with these norms, vertical pressure is applied to the surface of a single-corrugated test material. The resistance of the cardboard to this pressure gives information about the behavior of this material during processing and use. The force applied during these tests should be applied perpendicular to the test sample. Fracture energy or curves give information about the degree of possible damage.

In the case of edge breaking tests, the following standards are taken into consideration:

  • TS EN ISO 3037 Corrugated board - Determination of edge crush strength (non-waxed edge method) standard
  • TAPPI T 811 Edge strength of corrugated board compression strength (short column test)

Edge breaking tests carried out in accordance with these norms are performed to determine the resistance of the board against stable waves. When performing these tests, the applied force must be directed perpendicular to the test sample. Edge breaking strength tests are carried out according to McKee method which is very important in quality control in paper industry. During these tests it is important that the test specimen is clean, cut at right angles and undamaged.

During the specific test studies, the current regulations and the relevant standards published by many domestic and foreign organizations are taken into consideration. In line with the needs of the enterprises, our company also performs breaking strength tests within the framework of specific tests.

Meanwhile, our organization has been accredited by ÖSAS accreditation organization in accordance with TS EN ISO / IEC 17025 General Requirements for the Qualification of Testing and Calibration Laboratories and serves within this framework.
