By the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, in 2010, by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Regulation on Soil Pollution Control and Point Source Contaminated Sites was issued. This regulation sets out the principles for the prevention of soil pollution, the identification of areas where there is contamination or areas that may be contaminated, and the identification, registration, cleaning and monitoring of contaminated areas.

Pursuant to the said regulation, all kinds of sampling and analysis studies to be carried out in soils suspected of contamination should be carried out within the framework of a certain plan. Therefore, a Field Sampling and Analysis Plan is prepared before the sampling process starts. Once this plan is approved by the relevant Commission, sampling is initiated.

Authorized laboratories take samples from contaminated soil and, if possible, groundwater or ground gas, in the suspicious area, in accordance with the field sampling and analysis plan approved in this way. Sampling principles have been determined by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. There are two tables in the annex of the said regulation (Annex 2):

  • Pollution indicator parameters list
  • Potential soil pollutant activities and activity-specific pollution indicator parameters

Laboratories operate within the framework of the criteria in these tables.

The need for water treatment arises for various reasons. Water is treated to prevent contamination of existing water resources or to make wastewater reusable or to obtain water of good quality to drinkable. For this reason, water treatment studies are carried out in two ways as wastewater treatment and clean water treatment. Wastewater treatment is the treatment of water, which is produced as a result of production processes in industrial plants and will not be released to the environment until it is treated. Depending on the treatment method applied at the end of wastewater treatment, wastes containing odorous substances in liquid or semi-solid form are called treatment sludge. This affects the amount of sludge, the level of contamination of wastewater, the chemicals used in the increase process and the efficiency of the treatment process.
